Superintendent's Article - July 24, 2008
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in the community for your support of our schools during my tenure as Superintendent. It has been 15 years of opportunities and challenges for our schools. We have a wonderful school system here in Louisville. Do not take it for granted. Please continue to support your local schools.
There are currently other leadership changes taking place in our schools. High School Principal Mrs. Polly Doyle has decided to retire in August after serving LHS for 33 years as a teacher and principal. We would like to thank her for an outstanding career of leadership. After an extensive search, the Board of Education hired Mr. Steve Milano to replace Mrs. Doyle. He actually started at the high school in July.
Two additional changes in leadership positions are also in the works. Mrs. Jina Lingle, School Treasurer for the past nine years, has accepted a Budget Analyst position at NEOUCOM in Rootstown starting in August. The Board has begun the search for a new Treasurer and will hopefully have a person soon to move into that position. Our High School Assistant Principal, Mr. Troy Radinsky, has accepted a High School Principal position at Leetonia. We wish Troy the best in his new job there. Mr. Milano is now in the process of reviewing applications for this vacancy.
Our new Technology Director, Mr. Joe Andrews, is working this summer in transition from his technology leadership position in Plain Local to our program. He has replaced Mr. Rick Malone, who retired after 27 years in our district as teacher and technology director. Thank you Rick Malone for being the founder of technology in our school district. We have made some great strides forward since 1991.
Mrs. Karen Best, our Director of Special Programs, has worked this summer as Director for the Elementary Summer School Program, which started on July 21st. This has been a big help to numerous students in the areas of reading and math.
A reminder to students...all students through grade 9 will start back to school on Thursday, August 21st. On that day, our 9th grade students will process through a day-long student orientation program. This has been done the past two years and has served as a great way for our freshmen to become acquainted with high school life. Then on Friday, August 22nd, all high school students report to school.
It's time for me to sign off. In closing, I wish to thank the Board of Education and my administrative team for the leadership and strength that they have provided over the years. It is through their conscientious leadership and guidance, coupled with a strong teaching and support staff that have made us an "Excellent" school district. Best Wishes to all, and Go Leopards!!
