Superintendent's Article - July 3, 2008
I want to congratulate our Transportation Director Jack Friesner and Mechanics Bill Roosa and Tony Shaheen. During the bus inspection held on June 12th, one hundred percent of our buses were approved and stickered by the Ohio Department of Transportation as safe for transporting students. Each year our buses are inspected for safety, and our staff has had 100% successful passage for the past several years. This is a huge effort and a wonderful success again this year.
Congratulations are also in order for Special Education Director Karen Best and our district's Special Education Department staff for receiving a clean Management Assistance Review in June. The review was conducted by the State Department's Office for Exceptional Children. I would like to state the general comments from the review as follows:
The Ohio Department of Education's Office for Exceptional Children would
like to extend appreciation to the district for their efforts, attention and time
committed to the completion of the Management Assistance Desk Review process.
The district is also commended for having all records requested up to date and in exceptional condition. It is quite obvious the district takes pride in what they are
doing for students with disabilities.
This is a testament to the fact that we operate an exceptional service for our special needs students. Way to go staff!
Even though our individual schools are for the most part closed during most of July, our Central Office at 418 East Main Street remains open during the summer with normal hours of 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. This includes the Superintendent's Office, the Treasurer's Office, and the Facility Manager's Office. Although we do not take care of the student records, we handle many business operations as well as preparations for the new school year. As a reminder to parents, our schools will reopen July 23rd for the high school and middle schools, while the elementary buildings will reopen on August 6th. If new families move into our district, please let them know of these dates or have them call my office. We continue to register students only at the building offices.
The transition of superintendents is going very well. Mr. Redd and I have been able to share many things over the past few weeks in preparation for the new school year. I feel comfortable that it will be a smooth transition as my last official day is July 31st. Please join me in welcoming Mr. David Redd as our Louisville City School's Superintendent.
Have a wonderful summer, and Go Leopards!
